Ever since the first burst of fireworks illuminated the night sky above Cinderella Castle, Walt Disney World visitors have been captivated by the resort’s spectacular nighttime entertainment. Now, all four of the resort’s theme parks offer elaborate shows designed to delight and enchant guests after sunset. These grand finales are affectionately referred to by Disney as a "kiss goodnight," a magical sendoff to conclude a day of unforgettable experiences.
Disney’s Hollywood Studios stands out with a particularly rich offering of nighttime spectaculars. In fact, it boasts more nighttime shows than any other park at Disney World. While pyrotechnics remain a core element, these presentations also incorporate a diverse array of other crowd-pleasing elements, most notably stunning digital projections mapped onto buildings and other three-dimensional surfaces. With the advent of brighter projectors, sharper imagery, and ongoing technical and creative advancements, these shows have evolved into powerful showcases for Disney’s vast and cherished library of movies and characters. Designers also skillfully employ lasers, theatrical lighting, captivating music, dynamic fire effects, and even live performers to create truly immersive and unforgettable experiences.
Let’s embark on a journey through all the nighttime spectaculars currently offered at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. As you’ll soon discover, dedicating time in your itinerary to witness at least one – if not all – of these mesmerizing evening shows is highly recommended. These shows are designed to leave you and your companions in awe and wonder.
Walt Disney World’s 50th Anniversary Celebration
In honor of its 50th anniversary, Walt Disney World launched "The World’s Most Magical Celebration." This event includes a variety of special offerings, including nightly "Beacons of Magic" mini-shows across all four theme parks, which began on October 1, 2021. At Disney’s Hollywood Studios, the iconic Hollywood Tower Hotel, located at the end of Sunset Boulevard, transforms into a dazzling canvas each evening. A continuous display of imagery evokes the glamour and allure of Hollywood’s golden age. The concept bears similarities to the beloved "Sunset Seasons Greetings" show, further described below.
Wonderful World of Animation
Introduced in 2019, Nighttime Shows at Disney’s Hollywood Studios got a great addition with Wonderful World of Animation. This show is a vibrant and engaging addition to the park’s evening lineup.
Unlike the Magic Kingdom, Disney’s Hollywood Studios lacks a traditional castle. Instead, the park features the Chinese Theater, a meticulously crafted replica of the famed landmark in Hollywood, California. Serving as the park’s central icon, the Chinese Theater provides the perfect backdrop for most of the nighttime shows. Given the real theater’s history of hosting world premieres for iconic Disney films like "Mary Poppins," the park’s version is a fitting location to celebrate Disney’s more than 90-year legacy of movie animation.
The 12-minute show opens with a heartfelt tribute to Mickey Mouse. Iconic clips of the beloved character are projected onto the theater’s main entrance, as well as onto the building’s surfaces to the left and right of the entrance. Sometimes, a single panoramic scene envelops the entire structure. More frequently, multiple scenes appear simultaneously in different locations on the building, creating a dynamic and engaging visual experience. These clips often interact with each other, adding another layer of complexity and visual interest.
The show dedicates a significant portion of its introduction to Sorcerer Mickey, the iconic character from "Fantasia." As the familiar scene unfolds, meticulously choreographed fireworks, laser beams (including pixie dust bolts that seemingly emanate from the magician’s fingertips), and bursts of fire complement the animation. Even the trees in front of the theater pulsate with colored lights, synchronized with the on-screen action, enhancing the immersive experience.
The hyperactive pace of Wonderful World of Animation can make it challenging to know where to focus your attention. The show becomes even more dynamic as brief clips of various characters and movies are introduced. In addition to Disney’s hand-drawn masterpieces, computer-animated moments from both the studio and Pixar are included in the mix, sometimes all at once.
In one scene, for instance, members of the superhero family from "The Incredibles" watch from the sides as the Seven Dwarfs take center stage. Other movies referenced in the show include "Coco," "Aladdin," "Cars," and "Sleeping Beauty." The rapid mixing and matching of films can feel slightly disjointed at times, but overall, the effect is entertaining and engaging.
“We are all one big Disney family,” explains Tom Vazzana, the show director. “It’s a great retrospective, and it’s fun to see all of the characters together at the same time. We’ve never done it before.”
With a movie catalog spanning nearly a century, the selection process was carefully curated. The producers first created the musical bed, incorporating familiar tunes from "Wreck-It Ralph," "Big Hero 6," and other films. They then searched for clips that matched the soundtrack’s vibe. Vazzana focused on movies and scenes that hadn’t been used in other park shows. The classic and ubiquitous spaghetti-kiss moment from "Lady in the Tramp" managed to make the cut.
Wonderful World of Animation doesn’t follow a linear narrative. Instead, it’s structured around general themes. For example, a sequence devoted to love features clips from "Beauty and the Beast," "Wall-E," and "The Little Mermaid." A montage about villains features Hades from "Hercules" and Captain Hook from "Peter Pan." Characters from "Inside Out" and "Moana" contribute to a segment about friendship.
The show concludes, as it begins, with Mickey Mouse. It even includes Walt Disney himself reciting his famous line: “I only hope that we never lose sight of one thing – that it was all started by a mouse.” The final sequence features a vintage clip of Mickey in "Steamboat Willie," as well as clips of the retro “pie-eyed” Mickey featured in the Disney Channel shorts. This version of Mickey Mouse stars in Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, an attraction set to open inside the Chinese Theater.
According to its creators, Wonderful World of Animation is designed to be a dynamic show that evolves over time. “As the animation library continues to grow, the show can keep growing with us,” promises Vazzana. This makes it a show worth seeing again and again.

- Prime Viewing Location: The best spot to see Wonderful World of Animation is in the center of the courtyard, aligned with the theater’s main entrance. If the courtyard is crowded, try to find a spot by the Dockside Diner in Echo Lake.
Fantasmic!
One of Disney World’s crowning achievements, Fantasmic! is a must-see Nighttime Shows at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Unlike the park’s other nighttime spectaculars, it doesn’t rely on projection mapping onto buildings. Instead, it features classic Disney animation projected onto enormous water screens.
Despite the slightly reduced clarity due to the water medium, the effect is captivating. Many of the early clips in the show, including scenes from films like "Dumbo," "Beauty and the Beast," and "The Lion King," incorporate water, reinforcing the water screen concept and making the lack of crisp image detail more forgiving.
Fantasmic! is more than just a clip show. The 30-minute presentation tells a story centered on Mickey Mouse and his active imagination. It’s a simple, yet classic, tale of good versus evil.
The Disney villains, including Ursula from "The Little Mermaid," Jafar from "Aladdin," and Cruella de Vil from "One Hundred and One Dalmatians," represent the forces of evil. Sorcerer Mickey leads the charge for good. Mickey is portrayed by a character actor and joined by over 50 live performers. The epic show also includes colored fountains, fireworks, barges serving as floating stages, huge sets, wild effects, and more. The finale features a showdown with the villain mastermind Maleficent, who transforms into a 40-foot-tall dragon.

- Arrive Early: Unlike the Disneyland Park version, Disney’s Hollywood Studios stages Fantasmic! in a dedicated amphitheater with seating. Although there are around 7,000 seats, the show is very popular, and the theater often fills to capacity. Arrive an hour before the performance to secure decent seats.
- Dining Packages and Dessert Parties: A better strategy to guarantee good seats is to reserve a Fantasmic! Dining Package or book a Fantasmic! Dessert & VIP Viewing Experience. These options offer delicious food and prime reserved seating for the show.

Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular
Most of the interplanetary action at Disney’s Hollywood Studios takes place inside Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. However, the park also offers the motion simulator attraction, Star Tours – The Adventures Continue, near Echo Lake. And, of course, there is the nighttime show, Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular, which uses the Chinese Theater as a backdrop for its projection show.
The 14-minute presentation features clips from the entire "Star Wars" canon, including the original trilogy, more recent installments, and standalone movies like "Solo: A Star Wars Story." As with Wonderful World of Animation, the show explores themes like love, action, and the villainous dark side by weaving together clips from various films. Darth Vader plays a significant role during the villains montage.
Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular includes plenty of pyrotechnics. Lasers and fireworks complement and punctuate much of the on-screen action. The show’s creators use projection mapping creatively. At one point, the Chinese Theater appears to shake as the action intensifies.
"Star Wars" fans will adore the show. Even those unfamiliar with the adventures of Rey, Boba Fett, Han Solo, and the gang will still enjoy the spectacle, especially the fireworks.

Disney Movie Magic
It’s live-action films that receive love in "Disney Movie Magic." This 10-minute projection show, staged at the Grauman’s Chinese Theatre, features clips from "Mary Poppins," "Pirates of the Caribbean," "Guardians of the Galaxy," the live-action version of "Mulan," and others.
Unlike "Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular," "Wonderful World of Animation," and other projection shows at the Studios, "Disney Movie Magic" doesn’t include any fireworks. It relies solely on clips and modest lighting effects.
Jingle Bell, Jingle BAM!
During the holiday season (roughly early November through early January), Disney’s Hollywood Studios embraces the Christmas spirit with nightly showings of the projection and fireworks show, Jingle Bell, Jingle BAM!
Like the park’s other mixed media shows, the action centers on the Chinese Theater, and the presentation includes lasers, theatrical lighting, a lively musical soundtrack, and other effects. At one point, laser-enhanced “snow” falls on the crowd.
Jingle Bell, Jingle BAM! features characters from Disney’s "Prep & Landing" animated TV special who are searching for Santa Claus to save Christmas. The show includes holiday and winter-themed clips from classic Disney cartoons featuring Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Chip and Dale, Bambi, and others. Tim Burton’s "The Nightmare Before Christmas" is also part of the festivities. The chirpy show ends with a rousing rendition of "Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree." This is a very popular Nighttime Shows at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Sunset Seasons Greetings
Another holiday season feature, Sunset Seasons Greetings, is unlike the other nighttime shows at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Instead of a set performance time, it runs continuously starting at dusk each evening. The show takes place along Sunset Boulevard and uses The Hollywood Tower Hotel from the Tower of Terror ride as the backdrop for its projections. Lasers and lighting enhance the projected imagery.
Mickey and Minnie Mouse, the "Toy Story" characters, the Swedish Chef from The Muppets, and Olaf of "Frozen" fame each star in a brief Christmas-themed vignette. Between each scene, projected snow falls on the hotel. To watch all four vignettes, including the interludes, plan to spend about 15 minutes.
Tips for Viewing Sunset Seasons Greetings
You don’t need to make any special plans to see the show other than visiting the park during the holidays and staying after sunset. Simply stroll down Sunset Boulevard and enjoy the presentation.
